I've
designed the 24x24 units with an eye to experimenting with the look
of the backdrops - use buttons or terrain? Highlights on the buttons?
Different kinds of terrain?
To do this easily, I separated the backdrop from the vehicles proper. As an added advantage, it is now very easy to create units for new terrain types - terrain designers, take note! And if you need assistance, just email me. I'd also enjoy looking at your own creations (if any).
I changed the Icon Set Army Symbol (flag icon) to reflect changes in the unit set. This means that you can install different designs (differently colored) in the same game, and when you change colors in-game (via the Display/Choose Player Colors menu item) you can recognize them by the symbol shown.
Speaking of different colors, since the units are using a purposely small palette, with a single slot each for primary and secondary color, I produce differently colored sets just by reassigning these 2 palette colors. Red is the color for the initial design because it contrasts strongly with green and blue.
This pack contains two classic 24x24 unit sheets, the one available from Killerbee (with grey antialiasing and thin smoke (red flag)) and a version with original Empire 3.12 16-bit unit outlines (not antialiased, thick smoke, modified airbase (+++ shield)). It also contains three backdrops, the flat-bordered button backdrop available from Killerbee, the same backdrop with Wydraz grass and sea, and a backdrop with Empire 3.12 highlight buttons and dark grass.
